Office presentations done for purposes of meetings are dull and boring. Whenever there’s a client meeting in the office, presentations made in PowerPoint make the executives yawn and drool.
But most employees that these are under the direction of top management and are scared of raising their voices against such presentations. And to most parts this is a standard rule which needs to be followed and everyone does it.
However, this global company has rejected the norm and does not allow the use of powerpoint presentation in their company, and that company in Amazon.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Amazon, Jeff Bezos recently revealed during a interview that the company has rejected the use of Powerpoint presentation and is not their work culture itself.
So how do they communicate ideas and work in the company then? Bezos said in the interview they use a “narratively structured six-page memos.” Which everyone in the meeting reads for 30 minutes and then discuss the ideas being presented.
As per NDTV report, Mr Bezos admitted the quality of the memos varied widely. He was quoted as saying –
“Some have the clarity of angels singing. They are brilliant and thoughtful and set up the meeting for high-quality discussion. Sometimes they come in at the other end of the spectrum.”
He was also quoted as saying that most of the executives who enter the company are in for a great culture shock since this is the norm in every company other than ours and also called it the “weirdest meeting culture.”
So how does the meeting take place, instead of passively listening to dull PowerPoint presentations, everyone sits silently for 30 minutes and reads a “six-page memo that’s narratively structured with real sentences, topic sentences, verbs and nouns… not just bullet points.”
