Trump has reached new levels of popularity! Now Indian parents don’t want their Daughters to Marry US-Based Men

Since President Trump has come to power a lot has changed in our land, before he came to power and after his stand on immigration is strong, he wants to reduce the influx of H1B workers coming to America, and India is the victim in this move. This program was used by many young Indian men to help them work and study in America.

Due to this anti-migrant stand of President Trump, there has been a reduction in the number of visas which have been issued to Indians. This is especially true in the state of Andra Pradesh and Telangana, where people used to go in large numbers to America to work on the basis of the H1B program. The US Embassy figures that including work visas and student visas the city of Hyderabad had the largest number issued by the US Consulate. And if you consider the worldwide figures it was the fifth largest number of visas in the world.

The Marriage Bureau of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have noticed a dip in the demand of Indian men based or working in America after Trump came to power. There is no recent data on this but due to the killing of a Telengana youth in Kansas this is bound to affect the demand of youths working in USA.

The MD of a Hyderabad-based marriage bureau, “Due to the clampdown by the Trump Administration, this has not only affected the job security of Indian techies working in the US, it has also affected the marriage of NRI (Non-Resident Indians) grooms. At present Indian parents prefer grooms who are employed in software companies in India rather than the US. This was the opposite case until months ago.”

The MD also said that the parents who wanted to get their marriage proposal from NRI grooms, have put their request on hold until they see the result of what Trump might do with the immigration policies.

There has also been a shift in criteria for many Indian parents, Subramanian Sharma a father of 25 year old daughter said, “I used to search for NRI matches {in the US), but I rejected 10 such matches after Trump’s rule.” He also told the relatives to stop searching for America-based grooms for their daughter till Donald Trump is the President.

In the same manner, Ravi Reddy (55), was looking for an American Groom for his daughter, but now he says, “I would prefer to give my daughter to grooms from any other place like Singapore, Australia – anywhere other than the US.”

The same view is echoed by another father, Purnachandra Rao, from Hyderabad, who said, “I was looking for a US-based groom for my daughter, but now along with the rules laid down by the Trump Government, my daughter will not be able to travel to the US along with the groom, so what is the use of getting married to a groom working there?”

There are chances of NRI marriages getting delayed even further due to this, “Most US-based Grooms are ready to marry at a late age, and the minimum age is 30 years. It takes another one or two years by the time they get married. Because of this effect it will get even more delayed.”

However, most NRI youths are confident about their job security. One young Indian, Chalapathi Rao (30) was working with the Health Department of the USA for the last five years and is looking for a bride for the last six months. At the start, he was getting a good response, but now it seems to have slowed down. Yet he is not worried, he tells, “I have a Greencard and work permit and I am employed by the US government. So there is no problem for me with regard to working in the US. My job is secure and there is no need to worry.”
