Palpreet’s NBA D-League Pick is a Blessing in Disguise

Two Indian Players i.e. Satnam Singh and Palpreet Singh are in the NBA D-League now, which has been hailed in India and rightly so. The journey from battered courts of Northern India to the polished wooden ones which reflect the glamour of NBA is a long one.

Palpreet, the winner of the National Finals of ACG-NBA Jump, India’s first national basketball talent search program, was selected 11th in the fourth Round of the NBA D-League daft held in New York, and was selected by the Long Island Nets, an affiliate team of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets.

Having witnessed the sheer quality on display in the NBA, the truth is that both the players have a long and arduous road ahead of them. While Satnam Singh making a name for himself by getting picked by the Dallas Maverick, Palpreet has catapulted to fame as well, having signed for the D-League this year and getting picked by the Long Island Nets.

But, Palpreet needs to toughen up to get selected to the NBA first team, not that he hasn’t before, he battled through knee injuries and came through an incredibly difficult nation-wide talent hunt organized by the NBA.

Dwayne Wade has put his point of view strongly supporting the establishment of the D-League, even though he never needed to experience any of it with his three NBA titles, “I give a lot of respect to guys that don’t have the easy path to the NBA, don’t get drafted and have to go to the D-League. They had to work their way in the league as a testament of their mental even more than their physical strength- to be able to stick with it, keep believing in yourself and make it to the NBA then sign contracts.”

The 6ft 9in hoopster, has been training in the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan, said he had trained hard and was confident of getting picked by a D League team in the draft.

The NBA D-League’s 16th season tips off on Nov. 11 with record 22 teams. The teams will hold training camps beginning on Oct 31, and will trim their rosters to 10 players on Nov 10, in advance of the start of the season. The Long Island Nets will play in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division, along with the Maine Red Claws(Boston Celtics), Westchester Knicks(New York Knicks), Raptors 905(Toronto Raptors), Delaware 87ers(Philadelphia 76ers) and Erie BayHawks(Orlando Magic).
