Empathy towards employee seems to be the last thing on minds of Indian Companies this year. There are 9 companies which operate in India, who hold positions in the bottom of the pile in the latest 2016 Empathy Global Index.
Least surprising was that Silicon Valley giants Facebook and Alphabet – the parent company of Google – top the list of the most empathetic companies.
Leading the list of the least empathetic companies is Bharat Petroleum followed by Sun Pharma and ICICI Bank. The top ten lists also has Bharti Airtel, Larsen and Toubro and Indian Oil, while State Bank of India is placed at 11 and Reliance Industries at 13. Interestingly, last year there were no Indian Companies in the ranking at the bottom.
The index claimed they define empathy “through a company’s ethics, leadership, internal culture, brand perception and public messaging via social media”. The index also uses publicly available metrics like “CEO approval ratings among staff, ratio of women on boards, number of accounting infractions and scandals”.
The rating included companies in US, UK and India while companies from China were not added due to absolutely no public information on the companies working.
